CORVALLIS, Ore. — One of two Corvallis teens arrested after a string of attacks on homeless men faces formal charges of robbery and assault, while the other young man had his charges dismissed in exchange for his testimony.
Police arrested Jonathan Appelt and Robert Griffin on suspicion the two were beating up homeless men and robbing them. Police suspect the two have an affiliation with a criminal street gang that dresses like clowns. Police said Appelt had a hatchet in his possession at the time of his arrest like the one carried by the Hatchetman of the Insane Clown Posse, some of whose fans gave rise to the Juggalo gang, according to law enforcement.
This week, a grand jury indicted Appelt on robbery and assault charges. Benton County prosecutors dropped the charges against Griffin in exchange for his testimony before the grand jury.
