Okay… this is said by somebody wayyyyyyy out of just about any music scene you can think of, so I guess that makes me about as impartial as I could be.
Expressing yourself through music, dress, hair, culture (however invented it may be), and “family” affiliation is pretty much everyone’s given right and is normal. Everyone is looking to belong. A lot of people like to talk down about the look of the Juggalo. Big deal. When you’ve been around for four-and-a-half decades like I have, you’ve seen a lot of really wicked shit come and go. Compared to some of the other things I’ve seen, the CONCEPT of the Juggalo just doesn’t phase me. However, the problem is this:
1) Anyone who expresses hatred for, or espouses violence toward anyone who doesn’t choose to be part of their cultural affiliation is just scary bat-shit crazy and wrong.
2) The over-the-top antics and attitude are overdone, unnecessary and impossible to be around for any length of time. With them, you have singled yourself out from the rest of civilization and set yourself up for special (unwanted) treatment. In my opinion, THIS is why most people have developed such an unhealthy hatred for Juggalos.
3) Whether you like it or not, your extreme devotion to this lifestyle DOES fit the criteria for a cult, and cultism is never seen as good or desirable. And to answer the previous poster, yes, technically those definitions DO classify organized religions as cults. Which is why I have so little use for them.
4) And let’s face it: it doesn’t help that your music, actions and speech are a cartoonish version of the black rap sub-culture (which is cartoonish enough), despite the fact that none of you are actually black. Many Juggalos seem to dislike black people. I’m not going to turn this into a racial issue, but it seems foolish to me for a group of racially-biased white people to base their music and culture on a people they don’t have any use for. In other words: if you don’t like black people, stop acting like wiggers.
Developing your own idea of family is good, and even necessary if you come from a bad family, and everyone has the right to find (and form) their identity based on whatever they feel drawn to. But guys: these are musicians. They’re only musicians. Never mind everyone’s mindless chatter about how lame they think they are or the fact that they paint their faces like clowns. That’s immaterial. They’re just musicians. They’re not prophets. They’re not teachers. They’re not philosophers or wise men (in ANY fashion), They’re just musicians. As for those supposed “commandments” at the top of the page… I don’t know where they came from, but forgetting for a moment that we aren’t talking about Juggalos: Commandments 3, 4 & 9 are just plain good advice for anybody, and we’d all be better off if we lived by them. Commandments 5, 12 & 13 are sentiments often expressed by the general public. For better or worse, some variation of Commandments 1, 7, 8, 10 & 11 are part of most social groups’ code of conduct (from Irish pub culture to black gangsta thug life). And I personally subscribe to Commandment 6. Of the 13, the one “commandment” that is frighteningly out of place is #2. In this one sentence, lies the cult mind and the basis of the real reason for the fear and hatred. And, if they truly live by this commandment, deservedly so.

The fact that you (and Possibly others) have dedicated so much time and effort to keeping a running website specifically against that group is flattering. You should really spend more time researching icp’s lyrics better. yes there’s plenty of murder and profanity, but beyond that is a message that many listeners understand, i will not deny that many fans don’t truly get the message. But realize that most of us do get the message. The dark carnival represents judgment for all your sins, each jokers card represents an entity that will judge you in different ways. anyone who really gets the message knows this. they know to respect one another treat each other like family. the ones that consider themselves a gang and commit gang related crimes don’t understand this, the ones that commit heinous crimes don’t understand this. you shouldn’t judge a group based solely on its downfalls and the people that give it a bad name. I sincerely hope you take a good look at both sides of the coin before you flip it.
P.S. if you wish to reply i would enjoy a debate over the subject. i would welcome your point of view on this matter.
Thank you. You have taken my thoughts and put them into words. The only thing i would add is what confused me for so long. I never understood why they had to focus on the murder when their message is so much greater. Well think about it. They are all about showing they don’t care about what others think. Which many people on here have failed to follow, but anyways, when people have managed to look past the murder and really listen to it all they realize that it’s just a means of venting and letting go and emphasizing their feelings. The real fans have kept from judging, have listened, and feel connected.
