heres a parents comments about their son being a juggalo – it breaks my heart how a good kid can now go on a bad path by following the crowed and becoming a juggalo .
I have a 13 year old son who attends school here on the reservation (no its not a forgien country). These “juggalos” are a huge problem here as well. The Canyon Day junior High School had to take action to completely ban, any type of association with this band/group, “ICP”.
My own child was getting caught up in the situation, he was making self tattoos on his body, wearing the clothing under his uniform, and had his ipod on 24-7. Its almost like he was being ‘brainwashed‘. His grades droped dramatically in school, his entire attitude was negative. I honestly believe listening to this music had a lot to do with it.
As a parent I took responsibility and sat down with my son and listened to the music, from what I could hear and understand the music ‘defies authority’, encourages ‘self mutilation’, and was singing about ‘God’. Ok i don’t think it was gospel music, and don’t think it was our lord and savior ‘God’, that they were singing about.
I have since taken his ipod away and have erased the memory off of our computer. In hopes that this will keep him from listening to the music. 13 years old is a hard age and my son did not need this negative type of influence. As a parents we need to be more aware of what our children are listening to. I did know but did not make an effort to listen, until it got out of hand.

I can completely understand if you don’t want your son listening to icp but in absolutely no way did they or any other artist have anything to do with his behavior. Music is not the cause of any persons behavior & i’m a bit angery your tryna but the blame off on them like that. I’m a fifteen year old girl from chatt town tennessee & i’ve proudly been a juggalette for three years, i make a’s & b’s for the most part..maybe my parents should thank Shaggy & Violent J for my good grades huh? Is there anyone intelligent out there with something to say about this? I have been watching youtube videos of interviews with the band, and from kids who want to be a juggalo, and I just feel sorry for these young kids who are looking for something good and true in the world. I believe that many of the juggalos/ettes do represent goodness and truth, and love, and that they are seeking their own “chosen” family. But I am not hearing any intelligent conversation around the content of the lyrics, or the attitude of the band. I hear a lot of defending and justifying, saying that it is the parents job, or lack of doing a good job parenting, that leads kids into crime and violence, and that it is not song lyrics that make people do bad things. I am hearing that there are just some bad apples in the bunch, etc, etc. OK, I get it. But, seriously, why, if you are all about family and love, do you sing about hate and violence? Why do so many crazy people identify with this group? When I saw the band members in the interviews, and their attitudes around the record companies, portraying the record execs as evil for making money off of things (like ICP albums)they think are wrong, I thought to myself, “these guys (band ) are just as bad……making a buck (actually, a shit ton of money!) off of kids that want something to believe in”. That is sad. If you want to make the world a better place, do good deeds in the world. If you want to make the world just a better place just for YOU and your juggalo friends, well, that is a tad selfish and sad. I hope you grow out of it. Soon.

For some reason rap has the biggest negative effect on the population. 90% of your average criminals listen to rap almost exclusively and about a quarter of them are die hard juggalos. I have never met a person who has graduated college or anyone in a successful business practice who was ever a juggalo. I’m sure a few exist but they probably make up 1% of the juggalo population. The fact is over 70% of juggalos are habitual drug users and self mutilators and about 35% of them are also violent law breakers, be it murderers or armed robbers.

It really isn’t the responsibility of an artist to control how their creation is understood and interpreted by their audience. It is up to parents to teach their children about how the world operates in a way that lets them choose their own way.
My kids will know who ICP is and while they may like their music, they will know that they are a creation of corporate america just like almost any other band. Seriously, when it comes to hypocrisy over “selling out”, only Linkin Park is more of a sell out than ICP.
At the end of the day most at risk kids are looking for two things, a group to belong to, and people to support their failures. Fellow Juggalos and Juggalettes are great for telling you how much they hate being a part of the system, but fail to ever come up with a way to move out of their parent’s basement before age 35.
Personally, my favorite song is Lets Go All The Way. I listen to it, enjoy it, but I leave it in the car when I go to work. Everyone should have multiple identities for different environments.
